Professor Rob Redding has shown from Brussels in Belgium to the Bayous of Louisiana. Born and raised in Atlanta, Redding has been noted for his “trademark” constructivist expressionistic (ConEx) style by NY Art Beat. He was compared to James Baldwin and his art called “iconic” by NY art critic Per Larson. His first juried art show, which showcased “Circle Jerk” in NYC was covered by Out Magazine. And “Circle Jerk” has appeared in Art News, AM New York, Chelsea Now, Express and Gay City newspapers. He paints out of his Brooklyn studio when he is not teaching at universities, doing his award-winning nationally syndicated news program or writing his Amazon.com best selling books and music.
Technique is just as powerful as the color used to express it. Like the blue sky is painted with clouds, raw exposed canvas is used as part of a constructivist expressionistic (ConEx) backdrop and foreground which are peeled away (reduced) in Geometric (Mondrian) inspired ways once surrounded by the sgraffito (Twombly) interrupting my Jackson Pollock-inspired gestural drip style smears (Richter). The sky has a picturesque story to tell and so do the arresting and sometimes adventitious collision of colors in my Smear Paintings.
